UK motorists will benefit from the forecasted completion of up to 280 miles of roadworks ahead of the forthcoming bank holiday weekend.
Over two-thirds of works that are presently in place on Britain’s main roads will be either finished or suspended for the long weekend according to the Highways Agency.
The agency, who is responsible for motorways and major thoroughfares, claimed the moves would help with the predicted heavy traffic flows. Those looking to get away will also benefit from the weather, which is set to remain mostly fine across the UK for the weekend.
The Highways Agency said 83 locations comprising 280 [...]

Investors with the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group have asked for a vote by shareholders over the Hertz takeover bid to be stopped.
The high-profile and protracted bidding war that has waged for months between Hertz and rival Avis, has left investors in the smaller Dollar Thrifty organisation dubious as to whether the company is getting true value for money under the Hertz deal.
Hertz made the initial offer of $1.1 billion back in April, when the troubled Dollar Thrifty shares were low and investors more welcoming of the potential acquisition. The offer also contained several clauses relating to other bidders and termination [...]

Consumer watchdog Which? has accused British train companies of confusing passengers by having different time slots for their peak time travel. The magazine claims that a lack of consistency causes headaches for many when they are purchasing tickets. Different restrictions on different tickets can be baffling to travellers, according to Which?
However, the Association of Train Operating Companies (Atoc) claims most customers are able to cope with the differing schedules and manage to purchase the correct ticket and board the correct train.
Which? gave the example of how peak time travel differed by pointing out that Virgin Trains started their West Coast [...]

A group of climate change activists, responsible for disrupting services at Aberdeen Airport after they broke in and occupied a runway in a makeshift cage in March 2009, has been fined. Each member of the Climate9 group was individually told how much they would have to pay, the highest fine being £700.
The protesters targeted Aberdeen Airport because of its links to the offshore oil industry. They were also protesting against Donald Trump’s plans to build a golf resort on protected land close to the city. The protesters are apparently considering an appeal on the grounds that their actions are necessary [...]

Motorists across the UAE have been reeling from a massive 11 per cent rise in the cost of petrol prices in recent weeks.
The soaring fuel charges have been met with condemnation in the region, which relies heavily on car rentals given the already significant cost of purchasing a new car in the state.
Hertz UAE has fortunately launched its latest summer deal that offers some good news at last for the emerging hire car market in the Emirates. Under the offer, customers will not only benefit from a 20 per cent savings on any monthly rental, but they will also be [...]

The summer holiday season has produced a number of damaging surveys for UK motorists.
While some reports tell of the high rate of family arguments pre-journey, and others of the ongoing battle of the sexes behind the wheel, none have so far identified the passenger as a source of frustration.
However, a new poll from Continental Tyres has revealed that as many as four million British drivers would prefer to travel on their own rather than deal with the annoyances brought into their vehicle by those in the passenger seats.
The survey canvassed 4,000 UK motorists, and found that people who were aged [...]
