The Welsh Assembly Government has told members that they must be more conscientious when it comes to refuelling their hire cars before returning them to dealers. The announcement comes after it was revealed that Welsh civil servants ran up a bill of £23,000 last year through service charges because they did not fill up their tanks.

British Airways passengers could once again be facing disruption as the dispute between the airline and its cabin crew rumbles on. Unite has accused BA of turning down its latest peace deal, but added it hoped to be able to sit around the table at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) with BA sometime in the next week for talks.

Returning holidaymakers who have left their vehicles in the long-term parking area at Stansted Airport could be in for a rude awakening.
Drivers returning to the airport may wish they had remained on holiday when the discover that theirs may be one of 24 cars incinerated in a recent fire which swept through the long stay bay at the London transport hub.
A joint Police and Fire Service investigation has been launched to try and determine the exact cause of the blaze which saw the two dozen vehicles destroyed and an untold number of the travelling public affected.

Car rental agencies in Jordan fear that new regulations may force them out of business
Recently proposed legislation by the Public Transport Regulatory Commission (PTRC) is threatening many hire company owners, with the rules governing operation making it increasingly difficult for small businesses in particular to survive.

Cardiff council has announced plans to introduce short term hire vehicles to the city’s streets in a bid to reduce congestion. City Car Club has been given the contract to run the scheme which will see 10 low-carbon emission vehicles occupying parking spaces throughout Cardiff from this October.

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing said it is going to have to push back the delivery dates of its first 787 Dreamliners because of further delays in flight testing. Boeing has already delayed delivery by two years due to a variety of problems. All Nippon Airways in Japan was due to be the first airline to receive the 787 before the end of the year; however the first of the new generation aircraft will now not be delivered before spring 2011.

A merger between US carriers United Airlines and Continental Airlines has moved one step closer after the US Justice Department gave the deal its blessing. If the two airlines join forces they will create the world’s largest airline in terms of passenger-miles flown. Civil servants in the employment of the Welsh Assembly Government are costing taxpayers.
Last year, the group ran up a bill of£23,000 in service charges due to neglecting to refuel their hire cars on return.
The amount represents a £2,000 increase from the previous year and over twice that of refuel charges from 2004 when the figure was just £10,732 according to figures released yesterday.

Motorists will soon be able to beat the traffic jams in Cardiff thanks to a new car rental scheme.
The £120,000 public car rental scheme is to be launched as the Welsh capital seeks to reduce traffic congestion.
Under the program, ten low-emission vehicles which can be rented out by the hour will debut in Cardiff from October, being stationed at key areas around the city. A Middlesbrough man is though to have fallen to his death whilst climbing on his hotel room balcony in Bangkok, Thailand. Although the exact cause of his death remains unknown, the body of 30-year-old Jim Smith was discovered in hotel gardens beneath his fifth floor room.
Smith was well known in the urban exploring community and was a devotee of the practice of seeking out buildings and landmarks to be climbed. He had recently climbed up the Angel of the North. Smith was in Bangkok on business at the time of his death.

Staff at Bangkok Airport were surprised recently by the discovery of a sedated tiger cub in a passenger’s baggage. According to Traffic, an organisation responsible for monitoring wildlife trade, the two-month-old cub was being smuggled in luggage containing a number of stuffed toy tigers. Staff had their suspicions aroused when the luggage was passed through an x-ray machine and the image of what looked like a real tiger appeared.
