Heavy rain hampers recovery of Pakistan’s air-crash victims

There has been no indication given as to what caused Pakistan’s worst-ever passenger plane disaster. A day of mourning is being observed across the country as teams of rescue workers struggle to sift through debris and recover the bodies of the victims. According to eyewitnesses, the Airbus A321, carrying a total of 152 passengers and crew, was flying at a very low level in monsoon rain and with poor visibility. Reports that the aircraft’s black-box flight recorder has been recovered are being denied by officials.

Boeing announces fall in profits

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has announced a fall in its quarterly net profits. Between April and June profits fell 21 per cent to $787 million compared to the same period last year when net profits reached $998 million. Although the drop can be attributed to less planes being delivered, the fall was not as sharp as some analysts feared.
During the second quarter, Boeing managed to deliver 114 commercial aircraft. In the same quarter last year the manufacturer was able to deliver 125. Deliveries for the whole of the first half of this year were down by 10 per cent on 2009.

Enterprise in new $3 million pledge to Urban League

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, the philanthropic division of Enterprise Holdings, has announced a new pledge to the US Urban League.
The new three-year, $3 million grant coincides with the celebration of the League’s 100th anniversary and will support the organisation’s Whitney M. Young Jr. Center for Urban Leadership.
The National Urban League renowned across the US and the world as a civil rights organisation that is dedicated to empowering local economies to raise the general standard of living in historically poor urban communities. Avis unveils new eco friendly rental depot

With the modern commercial emphasis on environmental sustainability, the need to reduce one’s carbon footprint has been more important than ever.
With the fragile state of the planet squarely in mind, Avis Car Rental has been able to make significant reductions in its carbon impact at its KwaZulu-Natal regional depot through the use of recycled water and low-voltage lighting.
