Avis airport relocation in Durban to show long term reward

Leading South African car rental company Avis says its forced move to the new Durban Airport will have long term benefits. Chief executive Wayne Duvenage said that the high cost relocation to the new King Shaka International Airport would not begin to show a positive return for at least ten years, but added that by that stage, all concerned would be glad of the transition.

Avis declares World Cup a success

The 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa was by and large disappointing for the car hire industry. However, for Avis, the African odyssey was an unqualified success, largely due to their heavy investment in the local culture and research into the potential traveller, with consultations with previous World Cup holding nations proving highly beneficial.

Flybe orders 35 new Embraer jets

In holding with tradition, a number of airlines have used that Farnborough Air Show this week to make announcements about new aircraft orders. European carrier Flybe said that it would be furthering its expansion into the west of Europe with an order for 35 Embraer 175 jets. The planes, which are capable of seating 88 passengers, will be delivered from 2011 through 2017.

British Airways cabin crew reject latest pay deal

Cabin crew at British Airways have rejected the airline’s latest peace offering meaning that further strike action could be on the horizon. Less than half the cabin crew eligible to vote on the pay deal did so, causing BA to put a positive slant on the ballot. The airline said that it was encouraged by the fact that 73 per cent of its cabin crew had not actually voted against the peace deal.
