Ontario’s Court of Appeal has granted approval to Air France-KLM to settle claims brought against the airline following an incident five years ago. In return for a guarantee that no future action will be taken against Air France-KLM relating to one of its Airbus jets overshooting a Toronto runway, the carrier will pay C$10 million, plus any interest owed.
Airbus and the manufacturer of the aircraft’s evacuation system have also agreed to pay C$1.65 million and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority will pay C$2 million. The settlement will cover 184 claimants and their families. Previous to the approval of the class-action [...]

The driver of the Scottish train that derailed and caught alight has been hailed as a hero.
Willie Dickson and his staff led passengers to safety after the train they were travelling on went off the rails close to Loch Awe in Argyll. Dickson’s composure in managing the evacuation of the train, which was left hanging some 50ft over an embankment, won praise from management and passengers.

The world’s leading travel transaction processor and technology partner, Amadeus, has unveiled a new car booking tool.
The new vehicle reservation engine will employ a user-friendly interface and cutting edge technology to better assist travel agents making customer bookings.
The program, which forms part of version 6.1 of the Amadeus Selling Platform, will be made available from this summer, with agents able to access the Cars Plus service in up to ten different languages via the Amadeus global booking system.

Car hire customers at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport could soon find themselves having to pay a fee of around $8 per day, if plans to impose the charge are given the go ahead by the City Council. Mayor Richard Daley has already had his proposal approved by the Aviation Committee.

In anticipation of a tightening of aircraft safety rules, Air France-KLM and Cathay Pacific have started to have airbags installed in economy class. The safety feature, manufactured by AmSafe Inc, is seatbelt-mounted and designed to comply with rules which state that since last October, all US built aircraft must be designed in a way that ensures passengers remain conscious throughout any situation where the aircraft is caused to decelerate through 16 g, or at 16 times the force of gravity.
