First Car Rental joins fight against child exploitation in tourism

The First Car Rental company has signed the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism, joining the battle to protect thousands of minors.
Known commonly as ‘The Code,’ the pledge was established in 1998 by End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT). The UN World Tourism Organisation has endorsed The Code which has been implemented globally across the hotel and travel industry.

Airlines confident that planes will be full for the World Cup

Despite somewhat disappointing ticket sales for World Cup matches in South Africa, many of the world’s major airlines are planning to add capacity to their South African routes during the tournament. Air France has announced that two of its three giant Airbus SAS A380s will be dedicated to the Paris-Johannesburg route. The aircraft is capable of carrying 538 passengers.
According to OAG, the flight planning specialists, airlines have added half a million seats to their South African routes. OAG claim that this could bring in an additional $250 million in sales for airlines recently disrupted because of the volcanic ash cloud [...]

Hertz renews Wimbledon contract

Hertz has been again named as the official vehicle provider for All England Tennis Club’s showpiece event. The contract renewal marks an extension of the successful service that the leading car and equipment rental specialist has provided at Wimbledon for the past 15 years.
Last year, Hertz made 15,822 journeys which took more than 30,000 players, coaches, managers and VIPs to the titles, covering an estimated 228, 736 miles in the process – equal to driving around the globe nine times.

Passengers voiced concerns just hours before Potters Bar train crash

An inquest into the 2002 train crash at Potters Bar is now underway. The crash cost the lives of seven people and injured a further 76. The incident took place on May 10 when a train, travelling at 98 miles-per-hour from London to Kings Lynn, derailed just outside Potters Bar station in Hertfordshire.
