Avis has announced that its 2010 car hire fleet is all set to provide leisure and business car hire customers with an eco-friendly ride.
The car rental firm’s line-up for 2010 allows renters to choose between a large variety of SmartWay-certified vehicles, such as Nissan Versa and Hyundai Sonata. The SmartWay certification program was set up by the US Environmental Protection Agency and ranks vehicles based on greenhouse gas emission and air pollution standards.

Premier car rental company Avis has received two esteemed awards for outstanding business service in the Middle East.
The company, which has car hire outlets throughout the region, has gained international recognition for its two big wins. At the Business Traveller Awards, Avis was named ‘Best Car Rental Company for the Middle East’, while the World Travel Awards 2010 saw Avis scoop ‘Middle East’s Leading Business Car Rental’ for the second year in a row.

A five-day strike by British Airways cabin crew has started after talks between the airline and union Unite at the weekend, once again, failed to reach a resolution. The industrial action will cause disruption to many of the airline’s passengers. Around 40 per cent of BA’s long-haul services out of Heathrow will be affected.

Investigators trying to work out what caused an Air India Express jet to crash as it came in to land at Mangalore airport say that they have recovered the cockpit voice recorder. The device could hold vital clues as to why the aircraft crashed in what aviation officials have described as good landing conditions. British Airways customers are facing continued disruption to services, after the Court of Appeals upheld airline union Unite’s challenge to a ruling earlier this week, preventing its members from going on strike. British Airways has announced that in light of the court’s decision, it will be reinstating a schedule of reduced services.

Dubai-based airline Emirates is awaiting the results of an investigation into why one of its jets suddenly lost height during turbulence and had to make an emergency landing in Kochi. The aircraft was said to be flying at 35,000 feet over the Indian city of Bangalore, when it dropped a reported 200 feet, injuring 23 passengers on board. 14 crew and 350 passengers were on board when the incident occurred.
