Marriott teams up with Nickelodeon, Dora and SpongeBob

On July 1, the Marriott hotel group plans to launch a new campaign to encourage families with young children to stay in more than 2,000 of its hotels over the summer holidays. The campaign will feature popular cartoon characters such as Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob Square Pants. The promotion is in conjunction with popular children’s channel, Nickelodeon.
Marriot already offers families with children the chance to meet their cartoon heroes at a number of resorts such as the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix and the Harbor Beach Marriott in Fort Lauderdale. The special two-night packages include live shows in [...]

Welsh Rail crime drops 8%

For the sixth consecutive year, crime on the British rail network has fallen, and nowhere more so than in Wales. The British Transport Police have declared the decline in the Welsh network as significant for the last 12 months, spearheading the national trend towards greater passenger safety.
The considerable 8.2 per cent decline reflected a greater fall across Britain as the recession has led more people back to rail services, with the increasing number of passengers on rail cars providing an extra security level against mainly petty crime.

France and Brazil launch operation to deter drug smugglers

In an attempt to stem the flow of cocaine from Brazil to France, a joint operation between French and Brazilian police has been launched. Every passenger on three flights from Sao Paulo to Paris on Wednesday last week was subjected to a full body frisk, and had their carry on luggage as well as luggage stored in the hold, thoroughly inspected. Two Brazilian TAM flights coming from Paris to Sao Paolo were also searched, according to a French police liaison officer.

New electric car deal signed by Irish Government

The Irish Government has announced a new partnership with Japanese car maker Mitsubishi to promote electric cars. The deal was affrimed with the car manufacturer and its subsidiaries the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), MMC Commercials and MC (Automobile).
Eamon Ryan, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, also announced that Dublin’s Trinity College will be home to the first trials of the zero-emissions, all electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

New player unlikely to bid against Hertz and Avis for Dollar Thrifty

Analysts believe that it is unlikely that another bidder will come to the table with an offer to purchase Dollar Thrifty. Currently, Hertz has put up a $940 million bid for the group, and rivals, Avis are considering putting in a counter offer.
