Car hire pricier than a holiday says study

A recent investigation by the Sunday Mirror has revealed that renting a car during a holiday abroad can now cost more than an entire package deal. Due to the recession, over recent years rental companies have been cutting back fleets and putting up prices. Industry experts predict that prices will sky rocket again this summer because of the car shortages.

Holiday Autos choose Twitter for social networking campaign

The car hire adviser Holiday Autos has joined the ranks of social media by choosing Twitter as a way to reach their customers. The Holiday Autos twitter feed will supply offers, tips, holiday advice and more.
The company has only recently joined the social networking site and has marked the move by offering a five per cent discount off car hire bookings to the first 500 individuals who tweet or reply via direct message using @car_hire.  The social media tool of Twitter provides customers with a direct link, making it easy for potential clients to contact Holiday Autos.

Sir Richard Branson calls volcanic ash no-fly zones a joke

Virgin boss, Sir Richard Branson, has called the latest closures of airspace above the UK, a joke, and has asked the government to intervene and lift the restrictions.
The latest no-fly zones have been put into place because the ash spewing out of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland has once again been blown across Britain.
No-fly zones were created by air traffic controllers in the north of England over areas such as Doncaster, Carlisle, Liverpool and Manchester. Some airports in Scotland and Northern Ireland were also affected. Branson said that he thought the closure of air space over Manchester was not amusing. [...]

British Airways prepares to announce heavy losses

British Airways boss, Willie Walsh, has the unenviable task of facing shareholders and investors on Friday, and telling them that there is a hole in the year-end accounts of around £600 million. The past year has not been much fun for many airlines who have struggled to cope with the fall in demand caused by the global recession. However, British Airways has also been trying to cope with industrial unrest from its cabin crews, as well as the volcanic ash-cloud which kept much of the BA fleet grounded for nearly a week last month, and which continues to threaten business.
