Kiwi van rental outfit accused of having filthy minds

The New Zealand car and van rental company Wicked Campers has hit back at complaints made against their risqué marketing slogan.
Wicked Campers claimed that it was not responsible for the ‘filthy minds’ in the general public if people found the printing on one of their vans offensive. The vehicle, available for hire in Hamilton, comes complete with the slogan, ‘if you love me you would swallow it’ printed on the exterior.
Staff at McDonalds in Hamilton made a formal complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority, arguing that the vehicle was in breach of ethical rules and social responsibilities, not to mention [...]

Antitrust issues over Dollar Thrifty buyout

The takeover of Dollar Thrifty may develop into a protracted saga after Avis Budget joined the bidding war on Monday.
The falling numbers of car hire industry players has been cited as the reason why antitrust regulators will be taking a keen interest in the case.
Earlier this week, the Avis Budget took everyone by surprise when it announced that it would be making a substantially higher offer for the Dollar Thrifty group, which had previously agreed to accept an offer from Hertz Global worth $1.2 billion.

Virgin Holidays offers customers a ‘Rockstar Service’

Virgin Holidays is launching a new marketing campaign which will highlight the company’s dedication to customer service. The campaign revolves around the idea that Virgin customers will be offered a ‘Rockstar Service’, and is targeted at consumers who are seeking for the best possible treatment when it comes to hotels and airport transfers.
The campaign aims to follow on from Virgin’s ‘Ask for the world’ message, and will feature a fictional rock band called the Danke Schons. The band, loosely based on Spinal Tap, will be seen taking a Virgin Holidays package trip as they prepare to record their third album. [...]

BA’s cabin crew considering more sustained strikes

British Airways cabin crew have until midnight tonight to respond to an online ballot set up by the airline union Unite. The result of the ballot will determine whether a peace deal offered by BA is to be accepted, or whether more strikes are on the way.
Yesterday, union officials met with representatives of the BA cabin crew to discuss the possibility of more sustained strikes should the ballot reject BA’s deal. Unite said that if its members decided that longer strikes were needed, then it would tentatively support the move.
