An inability to appreciate local customs and a lack of basic arithmetic are the reasons behind many Britons being out of pocket due to over-tipping when travelling.
42 per cent of UK travellers have claimed they spend too much on service, mainly due to not being able to calculate exchange rates or even add or subtract properly.

With the cost of renting a car becoming an increasingly expensive proposition over recent months, recent industry moves have led to speculation that deals may become harder to find.
Last week’s takeover of the Dollar Thrifty group by industry giant Hertz cause mild panic among consumers who felt that a larger organisation would lead to market dominance and inflated prices.
However, industry analysts have predicted that car hire industry will keep prices at their existing levels and that the new deal would be unlikely to have an effect on costs to the customer.

Stephen Hawking has broken his silence on the subject of time-travel, saying that it could, one day, be possible for human beings to travel through space at speeds high enough to slow down time and therefore allow them to travel into the future. Hawking said he had previously avoided talking about such theories because he was worried people would label him a crank.

A recent report shows that last year the number of hotel insolvencies increased dramatically on a year earlier, despite the fact that more people decided to holiday at home because of the global economic downturn. The disappearance of the business traveller as well as problems obtaining financing, were also factors.
The study, by accountants Wilkinson Kennedy, suggests that the trouble caused by the recent volcanic ash cloud which grounded European airline fleets for almost a week, will also have a negative knock-on effect.
