Virgin Atlantic is Europe’s favourite airline according to poll

A recent poll conducted by online travel giants TripAdvisor shows that Virgin Atlantic is the most loved airline in Europe. The survey took into account the opinions of 2,868 respondents across Europe as well as information about flying habits. British Airways came in as Europe’s second most loved airline. Least adored was Ireland’s no frills carrier Ryanair.
The recent strikes by British Airways cabin crew have done little to endear the airline to those customers who were affected. However, the survey showed that of those affected, 34 per cent would choose to fly with BA in the future. Thirty per cent claimed [...]

Volcanic ash cloud causes car hire chaos

Restrictions placed on flights over much of Europe and the UK due to the cloud of volcanic ash being produced in Iceland are set to continue today. The National Air Traffic Service in the UK has advised that all aircraft remain grounded until at least 7pm, at which time the situation will be reassessed.

British Airways sends test flight up to assess volcanic cloud

British Airways is the latest airline to flout the advice of the International Air Travel Association and send up a test flight to assess the dangers of the volcanic ash cloud hovering over Europe. Earlier, KLM sent up an aircraft to test the air quality in Dutch airspace. The airline said that there were no irregularities and there was no damage to the aircraft, suggesting that the air was safe.

Further US recalls for Toyota

The Toyota automotive group, still reeling from the worldwide recall of several models over safety concerns, is to recall an additional 870,000 vehicles across the United States.
The latest North American recall follows fears that corroding cables may cause spate tyres to detach from the back of vans and fall onto the road. While recalls of vehicles are not uncommon, Toyota’s recent record has placed it under intense scrutiny.

Volcanic ash travel advice for car rental customers

Carrentals.co.uk, Britain’s leading car hire comparison website, is urging all rental customers to check with their respective suppliers about cancellation and delay policies.
The UK’s most used comparator has issued the advice in the wake of the ongoing volcanic ash cloud which has thrown European travel plans into chaos. The conditions, which have grounded thousands of flights across the continent, have also left many UK holidaymakers unable to collect their rental vehicles.
The result is that many would-be rental drivers have been left stranded with no means of reaching their intended destination, bringing into question the policies applicable to delays or cancellations.
