Ryanair will hit passengers this summer season by raising its baggage charges by one-third. The recent move of the budget carrier means that checked-in baggage charges will surge 470 per cent in just four years time – from €3.25 per luggage checked-in online in March 2006 to €20 starting this July.

An anti-corruption group has spoken out about the misuse of travel expenses by members of the US Congress. Judicial Watch revealed today that it has submitted an official complaint to the Senate Ethics Committee about the alleged prevalent abuse of per diems and foreign travel expenses by members of the US Congress. The organisation also sent a memo to the Office of Congressional Ethics demanding that it audit the House’s foreign travel expenditures and to investigate the pocketing of unutilised per diems.

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has released its figures for March, with car rental companies contributing heavily to the rise in aggregate new vehicle sales. New car sales for the month, compared with year-on-year numbers from 2009, revealed a significant increase of 20.1 per cent, while the figure also represented a rise from February numbers by 9.1 per cent.
The results are a welcome return to normalcy for the industry which suffered greatly in 2009 as a result of the economic downturn which forced many motorists and holidaymakers away from buying or renting vehicles.

Police in Naples, Florida, are hunting for a man who they claim conned a Hertz clerk to hand over keys to a rental car valued at $17,000. At roughly 18:30 on Monday evening, the suspect entered the Hertz Rent-a-Car office at 160 Aviation Drive in downtown Naples, on the west coast of the Florida peninsula. He provided the desk clerk with a copy of a rental agreement, which was pre-printed and visible at the counter.
