The closure of Skyservice Airlines last week has paved the way for a joint venture between travel operator Thomas Cook and Jazz Air, the regional partner of Air Canada.
Announced yesterday, the partnership is beneficial for Jazz in two reasons. Not only will the deal allow the airline expand its operations, but it will also let Jazz fly a fleet of no less than six Boeing 757-200 jets. The plane, which has a seating capacity of up to 228 passengers, is substantially bigger than the jets and turboprops Jazz now operates.

TUI Travel, owner of Thomson Holidays, has revealed a significant comeback in travel demand as holidaymakers ignore the slump. The travel company said that UK bookings for this summer have risen 13 per cent despite an average nine per cent increase in selling prices.
UK holidaymakers have earlier faced several problems, including the recent global economic recession and weaker pound exchange rates. TUI’s increased bookings mean that holidaymakers are determined to travel abroad after two disappointing summers in a row.

Australian and New Zealand travellers who choose the popular discount airline Virgin Blue, now have the ability to book their car hire online at the same time as their flights, making the group a simple one-stop shop for all holiday and business travel needs.
Virgin Blue has announced that it has entered into partnership with leading car hire operators Thrifty and Hertz, with the carrier revealing last week that both would be featured on the new Virgin Blue car hire booking site. Last year, in the midst of the economic crisis, car hire firms across the US scrambled to reduce their fleets in the face of mounting overheads. This led to several situations where car hire companies were forced to deploy second-hand or well-worn models to meet demand.
Frequent travellers were often irked to find rentals with tens of thousands of miles on the clock – something that was unheard of before the recession. Most rental vehicles nominally have around 10,000 miles before they are turned over, often to second-hand dealerships of corporate fleet programs.
