Hilton announced Connie Award winner

Homewood Suites by Hilton, the global brand for residential-style hotels, has revealed its top performing properties for 2009. The result was based on three main categories: quality assurance, customer satisfaction and the hotel’s lodging accommodations.
Twenty five hotels from Hilton’s portfolio of nearly 300 Homewood Suites properties were ranked in the list. Award winners received a plaque and cash prize. Bill Duncan, Global Head for Brand Management of Homewood Suites, said that each of the suite hotels has gone beyond customer expectations, meet Hilton’s stringent brand standards and maintain a beautiful property.

Which? Holiday warns against travel insurance exclusions

Holidaymakers are advised to be careful as they may not be covered by their travel insurance for routine disruptions such as hotel problems, transport strikes or even flat tyres. In a report released today, Which? Holiday stated that claims such as airline failure, acts of terrorism and strikes are not covered by many insurance companies. In addition, minor incidents that a traveller tends to assume are covered, such as missing a flight due to a burst tyre on the way to the airport, are also excluded from policies.

Court Order halts Network Rail strike

The threat of a post-Easter rail strike by Network Rail has been avoided after a court order ruled against the planned industrial action. Still reeling from the disruptions to UK travel caused by the unresolved British Airways dispute, the prospect of further transport interruptions for weary travellers has thankfully passed, for the time being.

US auto sales a three horse race

The United States automotive industry is entering a state of battle as the three leading manufacturers – GM, Ford and Toyota – go head-to-head in the race for leadership. Six die in Nassau County car accident

Two women and four children died last Friday night in Nassau County when their car hit a rental vehicle. Police and fire officials said that a speeding Chevrolet Camaro clipped another vehicle and sent it into the median, where it collided with a pickup truck.
