The latest Skytrax Airport Awards have been announced, with Singapore dominating the event, taking out several honours across a broad range of categories.
Opened in 2008, the island state’s airport is the world’s largest and most expensive terminal, reflecting the high quality of living standards and services that characterise the city. Airline industry analysts claim that the continued recognition will reinforce Singapore’s standing as a Southeast Asian regional travel hub – despite the rapidly rising competition from budget carrier Air Asia which is based in Kuala Lumpur.
Singapore’s Changi airport was voted Best Asian Airport, World’s Best Airport, Best Airport Leisure Facilities [...]

While car prices will be difficult to find on the cheap, appropriate insurance cover can also bring its fair share of hassle and headaches, not to mention expenses. Some [...]

TUI Travel, which owns Thompson Holidays, was delighted with the remarkable surge in customer demand as travellers ignore the recent economic slump. The company said that bookings for the summer season had significantly risen to 13 per cent in the past six weeks in spite of the nine per cent increase in the selling price of tour packages.
British travellers before had faced weaker pound and currency exchange rates due to the recession, which also hindered most of them from travelling. But as of TUI’s latest figures, holidaymakers are now starting to travel abroad after not doing so for two consecutive [...]

The Mitsubishi group has announced that it will be offering electric vehicles (EV) across Japan in a bid to encourage motorists to adopt the environmentally friendly technology.
The firm has declared that it will shortly begin rolling out the specially designed i-MiEV electric car at nationwide rental outlets over the coming weeks, with the first vehicle due for release at the beginning of next month.
However, the i-MiEV is only expected to attract minimal interest due to the relatively expensive price tag of 4.5 million yen (£32,800) and the lack of a thorough re-charging network. This lack of widespread availability is behind [...]

Chancellor Alistair Darling’s budget has provided funding of £60m toward the development of UK port sites to allow off-shore wind turbine manufacturers and their associated supply chains to relocate to new British facilities.

Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has expressed no shock at Chancellor Alistair Darling’s pre-election budget, but rather voiced satisfaction over the help he extended towards small enterprises that would greatly benefit many of ABTA’s members.
The chancellor declared that financial institutions with large public sector ownership will lend £41 billion to small firms in the next 12 months. An adjudicator post will also be made to impose judgement on bank lending decisions.
