TUI Travel, which owns Thompson Holidays, was delighted with the remarkable surge in customer demand as travellers ignore the recent economic slump. The company said that bookings for the summer season had significantly risen to 13 per cent in the past six weeks in spite of the nine per cent increase in the selling price of tour packages.

The Mitsubishi group has announced that it will be offering electric vehicles (EV) across Japan in a bid to encourage motorists to adopt the environmentally friendly technology.
The firm has declared that it will shortly begin rolling out the specially designed i-MiEV electric car at nationwide rental outlets over the coming weeks, with the first vehicle due for release at the beginning of next month.

Chancellor Alistair Darling’s budget has provided funding of £60m toward the development of UK port sites to allow off-shore wind turbine manufacturers and their associated supply chains to relocate to new British facilities.
In announcing the new plans yesterday, Darling claimed that the Labour government would launch a competition aimed at identifying appropriate locations for funding recipients which will be subject to aid approval by the state. This funding is intended to aid the securing of the energy source for Britain, bringing valuable jobs and revenue.
