Canadians cross the US to catch cheaper flights

A growing number of Canadians are making border runs to the US to avail of cheaper air travel fares compared to flying from their home country. They said that US carriers offer much lower ticket costs and more hassle-free airport security than the ones they have in Canada.
Burlington Airport’s Director for Aviation, Brian Searles, said that 40 per cent of the airport’s passengers are Canadians. The airport is just 30 miles from the border.
Meanwhile, Plattsburgh Airport revealed that 85 per cent of the travellers using the air terminal are Canadians. The Canadian Airports Council estimates that there are about 2.5 [...]

Sterling falls into its 10 month low

Holidaymakers, as well as regular shoppers, were caught in surprise as the British pound fell into its 10 month low. Experts also warned that the sterling will drop further.
As the trading day passes, the pound fell 1.6 per cent against the US dollar – a record low since May. The unexpected drop from $1.52 to $1.48 was the sterling’s biggest one-day fall since January 2009. The sterling had lost almost 10 cents against the US dollar in just a week, affecting holidaymakers, petrol pump prices and import expenditures of businesses. Monster wave kills two on Mediterranean cruise

Two passengers have died onboard a Mediterranean cruise ship after the vessel was hit by a massive wave measuring some eight metres in height.
The two men, one Italian and one German, died after abnormal waves struck the Louis Majesty, part of the Greek Louis Cruise Lines, on Wednesday. There were around 1,800 people on board at the time of the tragedy, including 1,350 passengers and an additional 580 crew.
