Eurostar Records Record Ticket Sales in 2009

New reports from Eurostar show that their total ticket sales in 2009 reached record highs. In fact, the company was able to record £675.5 million in sales. This is an increase of about 1.7 percent on 2008. This is a big deal since 2009 marked a very difficult year for the travel and tourism industry as a whole. Thus, for any company in this industry to be able to post record breaking sales is amazing.

UK Government Announces More Steps to Flight Terrorists

Reports now show that the UK government has announced new steps and measures that will be put in place to enhance airline security in the UK. These steps do include drawing up a “no fly” list of potential terrorists.
The people that find themselves on the Home Office’s watch list, would not be allowed to fly to the UK. There will also be a larger list identifying those who should be subjected to special measures, including enhanced screening, before being allowed to board a plane in the UK.

British Airways Attacked by Union Over Strike Move

Reports show that the union has reacted angrily to British Airways’ move to train its ground staff as cabin crew. This move by British Airways came out as the talks between the airline and Unite bosses broke down without any resolution to the ongoing dispute over contracts.
The Unite union has announced that it will re-ballot its members on Monday, January 25th on whether to strike or not. This makes the threat of an Easter walkout still very possible. Traveljigsaw car hire secures new financing deal

Traveljigsaw, the rental car and travel specialist based out of Manchester, has announced a new refinancing deal worth millions of pounds.
Traveljigsaw, which also features an online travel operation, was bought by ISIS – the private equity firm – in 2008 under a deal supported by the group’s management. Since that time Traveljigsaw has made roughly twice the buyout input of £8 million provided by additional lenders the Yorkshire Bank.
