British Airways and Unite Union Meet to Avoid Strike

In another hope to avoid a strike action, British Airways and Unite union will be meeting. Both sides are going to see if they can come to some kind of agreement on pay and working conditions. The first meeting that British Airways and the union had last month broke down. This breakdown led to the announcement of a 12 day strike over Christmas and the New Year.

Britain Expected to Get Even More Snow

It now appears that Britain has not seen the last of its snowy days. In fact, forecasts suggest that the UK can expect up to six more days of snow. This is bad news for the UK, which still has more than enough snow on the ground.
Parts of the country saw 1.5 feet of snowfall overnight and freezing temperatures are expected to continue for at least another two weeks. Eurostar Train Suffers Traction Problems in Channel Tunnel

Reports now show that a Eurostar train has just recently broken down inside the Channel Tunnel after suffering some bad traction problems due to the heavy snowfall that has been hitting the UK. A spokesman for Eurotunnel said a rescue engine has towed the train out of the tunnel.
The train had restarted its journey at 10:35am and arrived in Ashford, Kent shortly after. The train did not encounter any other problems after getting out of the tunnel. Another train, the train from Paris to London, has also gotten stuck for a similar time period outside the tunnel in France.

Abdulmutallab Showed Interest in Islamic Extremism While in UK

The Yemen deputy PM has put forth the notion that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab possibly joined Al-Qaida after arriving in London. According to the PM, the Nigerian man may have been introduced to a radical Islamic sect possibly connected with the Fort Hood mass shooting.
The 23 year-old, who was indicted just yesterday on the charges of attempted murder as well as attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, has spoken to US intelligence officials about his training in Yemen raising new concerns about the levels of extremism in the country.

Auto Industry Must Brace for Another Difficult Year

Sales peaked in December for new cars in an almost 39 percent increase across the UK in sales for new vehicles. In comparison to this same time last year, sales since May have remained strong despite a harsh economic climate during 2009.
Part of this phenomenon is due to the UK scrappage scheme implemented to boost the economy during trying economic times. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, just more than a fifth of all new vehicle purchases were directly due to the government implemented scrappage scheme.
