Glasgow Airport Preparing for Commonwealth Games

It would appear that Glasgow airport is now gearing up and preparing for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Although it may seem a bit early to do so, Glasgow Airport is hoping to improve passenger facilities in time for the games since the Commonwealth Games will be held in the surrounding city.
Some of the proposed developments include things like upgrading the airport road network and airfield taxiway. The airport is also hoping to start construction on a new runway lighting system and new food court. Overall, the airport is hoping to invest some £12 million in 2010, followed by £13 million [...]

UK Rail Passengers Should Be Prepared for Price Increases

New reports are now suggesting that UK rail passengers should be ready for price increases. Some of these price increases could be as much as 15 percent more per ticket.
Right now, London Tube fares will go up by an average of 3.9 percent. The average bus fare will shoot up as high as 12.7 percent. Line passengers will also see their fares increase by 0.4 percent. This is due to the annual rise for regulated fares, which is linked to the rate of RPI inflation.

Alton Towers Releases Details of its New Ride

One of the biggest tourist attractions in the UK, Alton Towers, has just recently released some new details about its £15 million roller coaster. This is the roller coaster that is supposedly so frightening that Alton Towers is considering putting a strict age limit on it for young and old alike.

Polish Inter-City Trains Go High-Tech

Employees of Polish inner-city trains are now able to provide detailed information to passengers aboard the trains using HaCon’s Hafas Mobile Professional software. The staffers can access the information with their Casio IT-3100 electronic devices created by TK Telekom.
Staff on board the trains can easily make enquiries by typing data onto a small keyboard using a stylus. The touch screen device allows anti-fault station searches and can handle Polish characters making it a convenient piece of technology for staffers with limited English skills.

UK Police Forces Spend Half a Million Pounds on Car Hire

The authorities in Gloucestershire announced that the Constabulary has used over half a million pounds over a five year time period to hire vehicles for the police force. A Freedom of Information request saw the details leaked to the public which reveal that the police force has spent at least £579,152.00 for car hire for the past five years.
On a national level, the figures remain similar with police forces spending almost the same amount, half a million pounds, per week on car rentals. Authorities in Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland similarly spend up to  £132 million on hired vehicles [...]
