United States and UK Hotels Still Under Fire

The hotel room rates, revenues and occupancy levels for UK and United States hotels are still under a lot of pressure as they continue to fall for the last three months of the year. In the United States, average daily rates slumped 5.9 percent to $96.04, according to data from STR. The industry’s occupancy levels also fell by 2.9 percent compared to 2008 to just 48.1 percent. Revenue per available room did not do any better and decreased by 8.6 percent year on year to finish at just $46.22.

British Airways Agrees to New Content Deal with Amadeus

Travel agents that are using the Amadeus booking platform will have guaranteed full content access to all of British Airways’ fares for yet another three years. This new deal means that consultants will have access to the same range of fares and inventory through Amadeus as they would through the airline’s website and at the same opt in level as those established in 2007.

Eurostar Continues to See Problems Due to Weather Conditions

Apparently all of Eurostar’s services were suspended on Monday, December 21st due to problems. The company has also warned passengers that they may not be able to make it home for Christmas. Eurostar is urging all of its passengers that do not have to travel to change their travel dates or seek a refund. This way the passengers that do have to travel may be able to make it to their destination.

European cruise brands keep Carnival afloat

The Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise line conglomerate in the world, has hailed Europe’s cruise brands as their saviour in a year where they have taken a financial battering due to the economic downturn.
Carnival, which owns Cunard, Costa and P&O Cruises announced that its yearly profits to November fell from $2.3 billion to $1.8 billion. This still meant it retained its position as the world’s most financially profitable leisure travel company.

Eurostar to resume services today amid furious criticism

After an agonising wait, the delays that have affected some 30,000 passengers utilising the Eurostar Channel Tunnel should finally be over today. However, the company has acknowledged that thousands of people are unlikely to make it home in time for Christmas.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded that services are operational by Tuesday, having ordered French rail head Guillaume Pepy to get traffic moving again and to install measures to prevent similar incidents occurring again.
