British Airways Merger With Iberia Under Threat By Growing Pension Deficit

The merger that British Airways hopes will go through with Iberia has just recently been given a hurtful blow. This news came just after British Airways announced that its pension deficit had grown by £1.6 billion over the past year.
Apparently British Airways showed that its two largest pension funds have grown to £3.7 billion, up from £2.1 billion last year. This big jump has, of course, raised fears that the struggling airline will no longer be able to make payments to its entire workforce. Pan Euro High Speed Rail Cuts Journey Time

New reports now show that the Pan European high speed rail network has taken a big step forward after the launch of a new coordinated timetable that sees journey times between key hubs across France, German, Belgium, Holland, Italy, and UK reduced. The opening of this new high speed link between Germany and Belgium means that the two countries, along with France, Holland, and the UK, can all share common timetables in the new year. Fall in online searches for car hire

UK consumer are searching less for car hire online according to data recently released by Greenlight, the leading independent search marketing agency in Britain.
In the period from June to September the company’s findings, contained in their ‘Car Hire Sector Report – Q3 2009’, there were 5.8 million searches that contained car-hire relative terms – with just 1.5 million searches recorded in the month of September. This represents a fall of some 25 percent against August results and a whopping 34 percent when measured against searches made in July.
