The UK government is apparently planning a Spring launch of its new plans for a high speed rail network in the country. The British transport secretary, Lord Adonis, said on December 14th, that he hoped to publish detailed plans for new high speed rail lines and services, including route proposals, timescales and associated financial, economic, and environmental assessments by next March.

Reports reveal that Whitbread has announced predictions that it will beat its market estimates for the financial year of 2009-2010. The company, which is the UK’s largest hotel and restaurant group, said that its full year results would somewhat exceed the top end of market estimates. This was a statement that was released by the company on December 14th.

It now seems that over a million travelers are likely to have their Christmas travel plans affected after British Airways cabin crew members voted unanimously in favor of strike action. According to reports, the strike is set to start on December 22nd, which is, of course, just three days before Christmas, and they will not return until January 2nd of 2010.
