Sixt car hire signs with Oman Air membership program

The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme (FFP) from Oman Air is set to be expanded with a new agreement signed with Sixt rent a car expanding their partnership database. Sixt car hire is based in Munich and offers worldwide service mobility.
Memebrs of the Sindbad FFP can now choose from over 4,000 rental locations operated by Sixt in over 100 countries. The German company provides the world’s largest rental fleet of Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles along with a range of top model brands, jeeps, trucks and sports cars all at competitive prices

British launch for EuropcarClub

Britain’s leading car hire company Europcar has announced the UK launch of EuropcarClub which offers the flexibility of daily car hire with the benefits of a car club membership. The UK launch is a continuation of the successful French roll out in 2008.
The program is a subscription based service which has two tiers – Premium and Easy. European Court of Justice Announces Compensation for Delayed Planes

As of right now, people are suppose to get compensation if their planes are canceled. However, it now seems that the European Court of Justice feels that people who see delays for longer than three hours should be compensated as well.
In light of this new judgment, airline passengers who are delayed for more than three hours will be able to receive between €250 and €600. Heathrow Airport Sees the Closing of Terminal 2

After 54 years of service, Heathrow’s Terminal 2 will now be closing its doors for the final time this week. This announcement comes as the Terminal will be closed to make way for a £1 billion replacement.
According to reports from the airport, Terminal 2 and its neighboring Queen’s Building will be demolished. After the two buildings are taken down work will be started on a new Terminal 2 next year. As of now this Terminal is set for a 2014 opening and will serve as a new home for the Star Alliance airlines, including Lufthansa.

EasyJet Withdraws In Flight Magazine Over Fashion Shoot

It now seems that easyjet has confirmed that it will be withdrawing all copies of its in flight magazine, easyJet Traveler, following its publication of a fashion spread photographed at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. The fashion spread itself was shot in the Fled of Stelae, which is a German memorial in commemoration of the annihilation of Jews during the Second World War.

Etihad goes green with plane treatment

Designed as essentially aesthetically appealing and to provide a sleek and clean look to their planes, Etihad’s new initiative has proven to have considerable benefits to the environment.
Etihad has been trialling Permagard, an exterior coating made from polymer which is coated to the aircraft, with such success that it has pledged to use the new technology across its entire fleet. Similar to a thin fibreglass coating Permagard has proven to save on cleaning fluids, washing water and can even result in greater fuel efficiency due the reduction in drag on the plane.

Glasgow Airport in predicted Christmas car hire shortage

According to a spokesperson from Discount Car Hire (DCH) this year will see an unprecedented shortfall of hire vehicles made available from multi-national rental companies. Accordingly, DCH has increased its fleet size in an effort to meet passenger needs.
The group claims that the lingering effects of the recession will continue to have a significant impact on British based multi-nationals, most of whom have reduced their operating fleets considerably in the past year as they seek to minimise costs through lower spending and better fleet management.

Gulf Air Talks Of New Strategy to Fight Losses

It now seems that Gulf Air has come up with a new strategy that they want to use to help turn the airline into a commercially sustainable business by 2012. The overall strategy will focus on expanding its network with 20 new networks and upgrading its fleet size. Of course, the airline will cut up to fifteen other routes and even close some overseas offices in a bid to curb its losses.

New Rail Link for Channel Tunnel to Run Between London and Amsterdam

According to Gordon Brown, their could be a new direct rail link that will run between London and Amsterdam. The Channel Tunnel rail firm will be commissioned to lay out some new routes beyond Paris, Brussels, and Lille with the German city of Cologne and the Dutch cultural capital among those due to be linked to London. British Airways Thinks of Reigniting Tie Up Talks with Qantas
