ATP International Group Announces Plans for Dubai

It now seems that the travel management company, ATP International Group, has just recently announced its plans to open offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This comes just following a franchise agreement with Emirates-based travel company Orient Travel. It also seems like travel and tourism is really growing in the Middle East, and thus, companies are doing whatever they can to be closer to the action than what they are now.

UK Air Passenger Duty Tax Criticized by 100 Countries

It now seems that tourism ministers from more than 100 countries have strongly criticized the increase in the Air Passenger Duty tax that the UK government imposed this month. This tax, which rose on November 1st, is set to go up again in a year’s time. The condemnation of the tax came at a summit organized by the UN World Tourism Organization in London.

British Airways and Iberia Finally Seal the Deal

It has been a long time in the making, but British Airways and the well known Spanish airline, Iberia, have finally announced that they have reached a preliminary agreement for a merger. This announcement came just after a board meeting that took place late last week.
In a joint statement that was released, the two companies said that British Airways will have 55 percent of the new company and Iberia would hold 45 percent. The companies also feel that the merger would create about €400 million of synergies. As of right now British Airways already currently owns 13.5 percent of Iberia. [...]

The cost of driving has increased

Continual rises in insurance premiums along with increasing motoring taxes and the price of oil have all contributed to the new research which suggests that the cost of running a car has grown by around 11% in the past 3 years.
According the data released by Sainsbury’s finance average annual car costs, excluding interest repayments on loans are now at approximately £2,338. This represents an increase of 2.68% on the average figure from 2008 which was £2,277 and a massive 11.33% rise above the £2,100 figure which was in 2007.

Cousins sent back to Cyprus for manslaughter

Two cousins who were involved in the death of a teenage moped rider on the island of Cyprus are to serve three years in the Island’s Central prison. The pair have had to return to Cyprus from the U.K. in police custody because all avenues of appeal are said to have been exhausted.

Last week’s World Travel Market, marred by the non-attendance of several Iranian exhibitors due to visa delays by the Tehran British Embassy, saw industry experts still pondering how to cope with the lingering effects of the global recession.
