It now seems that the chief executive of British Airways said that the union strike threats would not deflect him from further cost cuts that have to be made. The company just recently unveiled that it has a record half year loss of £292 million.
Willie Walsh, the chief executive of British Airways, went on to ask the 14,000 cabin crew members to step back from their threatened pre-Christmas industrial action. He said that the further cost reduction is very essential for the airline as a whole, as it is facing a £1 billion drop in revenue.

There now seems to be a big slump in UK air travel. The World Travel Market started in London yesterday, and the scale of the decline in air travel from Britain has been revealed. Places like Spain, New York, and Scotland’s Prestwick airports are feeling the effects of the slump in flying this year.
Figures from RDC Aviation show that Britain’s 33 busiest airports all reported lower passenger numbers in the first eight months of the year. This does include a drop in passengers during the summer peak, which is suppose to be one of the strongest times for the airline [...]

The Irish airline Aer Lingus has just reported even more drops in revenue. This comes at a time when many airlines around the world are struggling just to keep their doors open. However, Aer Lingus did have some good news to point out despite the drop in revenue. This good news was the fact that its overall performance is benefiting from its efforts to cut costs.

One of Britain’s favourite sons, James Hoseason OBE has passed away at the age of 82.
Recognised by the travel industry as a true pioneer, he assumed control of Hoseasons Holidays back in 1950 and transformed the business until his retirement in 1999, leaving behind one of the UK’s leading travel companies and a fond legacy.
Widely recognised as a visionary, his leadership inspired Hoseasons to attempt many innovations which at the time were unheard of including such notables as computerised reservations, direct phone reservations and the requests for ‘dial-a-brochure’.
Hoseasons became famous for its iconic television advertisements for self-catering British holidays.

The British Travel Awards were held in London last week, with Manchester Airport again receiving the major honour.
Manchester was named as Airport of the Year in the UK for the second consecutive year running, ahead of competition from London Heathrow, Belfast City, Leeds Bradford and Glasgow. The voting was made by both travel professionals and consumers whose votes were based on the criteria of customer satisfaction, sustainability and use of technology.
