Bmibaby Announces Staff Redundancies

It now seems that Bmibaby, which is a low cost airline, has just announced redundancies. This new announcement came just after the company showed off its brand new restructuring plan. A spokesperson for the airline said that 54 pilots and 82 cabin crew positions at Birmingham, Cardiff, and Manchester airports were at risk of redundancy. These cutbacks also include 22 management and support positions.

Etihad Airways and Flybe Enter into New Codeshare Agreement

It now seems that Etihad Airways has said that its customers around the world will soon be able to fly to a long list of new regional airports within the UK. This great news for Etihad Airways customers comes just after the airline signed a brand new codeshare agreement with Flybe, which happens to be one of the biggest regional airlines in Europe.

British Airways and Cabin Crew head for High Court

It now seems that the well known disputes between British Airways and its cabin crew members are heading to the high court. This announcement comes as the Unite union, the union that represents thousands of British Airways cabin crew, chooses to take legal action against the carrier’s cost cutting plans. However, lawyers seem to think that the courts are unlikely to grant the orders due to the precedent that it would set for public policy.

London Olympics will not create an increase in tourism

The European Tour Operators Association has warned the travel industry of the perils of the Olympics, calling the industry members delusional if they believe that the event will create a surge in travel and tourism.
The ETOA has suggested that rather than being a boom for London, the UK and Europe the 2012 London Olympic Games are more likely to be costly to the industry in the long-term.

Dollar Thrifty confirms stock offering

The Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group has announced the completion of its public stock offering, with 5,750,000 shares made available to the public at a price of $19.25 per share.
In conjunction with the announcement the group has also granted a 30-day option to underwriters for the purchase of common stock shares of up to an additional 862,500. Approximately $105 million in net proceeds were generated by the offering after various factors such as commissions, discounts and expenses were deducted..
