European Commission Says Black Boxes for Cars Could be Helpful

It now seems that the European Commission has spent close to £2.4 million on Project Veronica. This is a study on how these black boxes for cars would work. These boxes, which are known as event data recorders, could be used to monitor a vehicle’s speed and other actions of the driver – things like how often the brakes are pushed, when the horn is applied and so on.

Christmas lights turned on in Oxford Street

The hallowed Christmas lights of London’s Oxford Street have been turned on for the festive season by Hollywood star Jim Carrey who will feature heavily on the big screens of Christmas lovers this winter.
The star of A Christmas Carol, Disney’s new animated film, Carrey was joined in the procession by fellow actor and co-star Colin Firth who lit up Regent Street. At St Paul’s Cathedral the illumination was made by Bob Hoskins, who voices the pawnbroker Mr Fezziwig in the upcoming blockbuster.
The traditional lighting ceremony included musicians Peter Andre, The Noisettes, The Saturdays and new romantic icons Spandau Ballet.

Dollar Thrifty announces latest results and forecasts

The Dollar Thrifty Group has announced its quarterly results for the period to the end of September, which revealed a net income of $30.1 million.
The $1.29 share price was a significant rise on the comparative 2008 quarter which yielded $18.9 million in net income at $0.87 per share.
Dollar Thrifty’s CEO and President Scott L. Thompson said that the group has achieved its third straight growth quarter of year-on-year comparisons for both Corporate Adjusted EBITA and non-GAAP net income, despite the ongoing difficult economic climate.
