Ryanair Announces a New Base for Norway

Reports now show that Ryanair has just recently announce that it will open its first base in Norway. With the opening of this base, 1,700 jobs will be created. The budget airline said that the base will be made at Oslo Rygge Airport in March
The base, which will be established with $200 million, will get three new aircrafts and 16 new routes. These new aircrafts will come on top of the six that the carrier already has at the airport. The airline hopes that this new base will boost its annual traffic to the airport by 1.7 million passengers.

EasyJet Feels a Mandatory Emissions Standard Should be Made

It now sounds like easyJet feels that a mandatory emissions standard should be made. The company feels that this would help to ensure a 40 percent reduction in CO2 emissions from the next generation of planes. The budget airline said that greener aircraft would be a lot more beneficial to the environment than continuing to tax the industry. This proposal comes just after a pledge was made by airlines in September to cut the industry’s CO2 emissions in half by 2050.

Farringdon Set to Become One of the Largest Hubs in London

Reports now show that Sadiq Khan recently visited Farringdon station to check up on Network Rail’s progress on their £250 million scheme. The main plan is to transform the hub in Farringdon into one of the largest and busiest transport hubs in all of London.
While there, the transport minister was shown demolition work at Cardinal Tower, which is being taken down to make way for an integrated Crossrail and Thameslink ticket hall. M&S insurance offers free carwashes

Free car washes for up to a year are now on offer for any new customers that sign up with Marks & Spencer (M&S) car insurance. Applicants will need to join the program via moneysupermarket.com and the package offers free motor cleaning services every month for the whole of 2010, which represents and estimates savings of £84.

Car hire firm to be sued for clutch charge

Charging a customer £820 without telling him has led to a UK car hire company being sued.
Value Rent-a-Car stung 78-year-old customer Christopher Pole-Carew with the hefty charge after his hire car broke down with clutch problems.
Pole-Carew had been driving the car for just five hours and was completely unaware of the actions of the rental car operator until he received his latest credit card statement. Pole-Carew, a former UK newspaper chief, is now taking Value Rent-a-Car to the petty claims court.

Asia Pacific air travel set for huge increase

According to leading plane manufacturer Boeing the forecast for the next 20 years will see a huge demand from Southeast Asia and the Pacific for new airlines at an estimated cost of US $330 billion.
Boeing’s market data analysis and forecasting was issued this week by Marketing Vice President Randy Tinseth with the focus being squarely on the emerging Southeast Asian commercial market. The group has said that by the year 2028 they will need to supply some 29,000 new aircraft at a total value of over US $3 trillion.

Bmi Announces More Route and Job Cuts

It now appears that bmi will be axing five routes and cutting 600 more jobs as a result of unprecedented market conditions. This is a problem that seems to be affecting airlines all over the world, not just bmi. In fact, British Airways and Japan Airlines, among others, have all been suffering from weak market conditions.
bmi, which is the UK’s second largest carrier, will be dropping its flights to Tel Aviv, Kiev, Aleppo, Amsterdam, and Brussels as of January 9th. The airline noted that it will concentrate instead on routes serving oil, energy, and emerging markets.

Network Rail Announces Temporary Station for Flood Victims

New reports have come in that Network Rail has started work to build a temporary railway station on the north side of the River Derwent at Workington. This temporary station is aimed to help ease the access problems that people of the town are experiencing following the big floods.

EasyJet Continues Expansion into Europe

It seems like, despite the recession, easyJet, has not given up on its plans to expand into Europe. In fact, the carrier has just recently announced 10 new routes for next year. These routes include three from the UK to Cagliari, Malta, and Helsinki.
The 10 new routes will take the total number of routes that are offered by easyJet up to 449. These routes cover 112 airports in 28 different countries. The news also comes just hot on the heels of bmi’s announcement that it would be axing five of its routes early next year.
