Moscow and Mumbai See Biggest Drop in Hotel Rates

New reports have shown that hotels all over the world are still having a hard time dealing with the economic downturn. This is due to the fact that many people are simply not traveling right now. However, it seems now that no city knows this better than Moscow and Mumbai. This news came by way of Hotels.com’s Hotel Price Index.

AirAsia Sees Mother Give Birth on Plane

Reports have come in that show that a mother has given birth on a flight flown by budget carrier AirAsia. The Malaysian woman apparently gave birth to the baby just minutes before the plane landed. It has been reported that AirAsia will be giving the child that was born on the plane free flights for life. The child was born on the plane just this past Wednesday, officials revealed on Friday.

Dublin Airport Discovers Man Trying to Smuggle Chihuahua

New reports from Dublin Airport show that airport security staff came across a man that appeared to be trying to smuggle in a Chihuahua. The staff made this discovery after passing a handbag that the man was carrying through an x ray scanner and seeing that their appeared to be a dog hidden inside.

Online travel industry steady in Europe

The latest report on online travel in Europe shows the industry set to show a slight growth for 2009. A projected figure of 0.6% growth has been announced in the soon to be released European Online Travel Overview Edition 5 from research group PhoCusWright.
The figures are in stark contrast to the overall European travel industry which is expected to see a decline of close to 10% for this year.

“Crash for cash” earn an average of £16,000 per accident

‘Crash for cash’ scammers are earning an average of £16,000 per accident, according to the body set up to combat this type of fraud.

Business owners are turning to alternate car schemes as the recession continues to affect expenditure, with pay-as-you-go car clubs proving ever more popular.

Heathrow Airport Voted by Fliers as the Worst in the World

Figures that have been released by a survey, which was taken by members of Priority Pass, show that Heathrow Airport has been voted as the worst in the world. Priority Pass is one of the world’s leading independent airport lounge programs. The survey included responses from 160 countries and only respondents that took, on average, 17 flights this year were allowed to take part in the survey.

Bad Behavior On Planes Caused by Alcohol

It now seems that air rage, or bad behavior on airplanes, is on the increase. Reports go on to show that the main cause of this bad behavior on airplanes seems to be linked back to alcohol. Government figures went on to show that 3,485 reported incidents of disruptive behavior were reported aboard UK aircrafts in the months between April 2008 and March of 2009. This is a rise from the 2007 to 2008 figures, which only showed 2,702 cases reported.

German Scientists Develop Explosive Liquid Detector

Well, it seems like German scientists have done it again. This time, however, they have come up with a new type of technology that can allow air passengers to take liquids on planes. The good news is that airlines do not have to worry about the liquids being explosive, because the new technology developed by scientists can instantly tell if the liquid is explosive or not.

A survey conducted by car hire giant Europcar has revealed that Britons love their cars more so than drivers across the rest of Europe.

Rising public transport costs to put more people back in cars

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced changes to the pricing schemes of public transport which will see widespread fare rises and reduced services with the outer boroughs of the city being hit the hardest.
The new fares will see a rate rise of 20% for users of single bus fares on the Oyster card. In addition, tube travel from the outer suburb of Richmond to inner-London will rise by 10p per journey to a cost of £3.80 each way during rush hour, with off peak fares rising by 20p to reach £2.40 each way.
