Overstaying British backpackers spreading STDs in Australia

A new study has revealed that backpackers from the UK are getting more than just a suntan on their holidays down under.
A survey of over 1000 British backpackers at a range of youth hostels in Sydney and Cairns reveals that the budget travellers engage in up to three times as much sex aboard as at home, prompting fears that they could be spreading STD’s.
According to the study, nearly 40% of UK backpackers had multiple sexual encounters in Australia, the figure being closer to 50% for those who claimed to be single on arrival. The results were published in the monthly [...]

European World Travel Award winners announced

Virgin Atlantic Airways, Europcar, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Marriott Hotels were the big winners in the European edition of the World Travel Awards held last week in Portugal.
The awards, referred to commonly as the travel and tourism Oscars were staged at the sumptuous Marriot Praia D’El Ray Hotel and saw host the Marriott group take home top gong for Europe’s Leading Hotel Brand along with Lisbon being awarded Best European Travel Destination.

Association of European Airlines Rips On Rising Airline Fees

The Association of European Airlines has now chosen to slam on airlines and their rising airline fees. The organization is calling for a freeze on all airport and Air Traffic Control charges until the end of the current crisis, which is putting a big hurting on the aviation industry. Due to the current recession, the airline industry has suffered a huge loss in traffic and revenue, and the Association of European Airlines says that these airline fees are not helping the matter.

NFL Return to the UK to Boost Tourism

It now seems that the NFL’s International Series of regular season games will make its return to the UK this upcoming Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the New England Patriots. This contest will now mark the third consecutive year that the NFL, which is the American National Football League, has played a regular season game at London’s Wembley Stadium.

British Airways Boss Holds Open Talks with Union

It now seems that the British Airways chief executive, Willie Walsh, has held very open and frank talks with Unite union leaders. The talks come as a way for the airline to avoid a strike threat, which hangs over the carrier’s head. The strike threat was brought on by plans to cut more jobs from the airline.
The talks took place with Mr Walsh, Derek Simpson, and Len McCluskey. Derek Simpson is the joint general secretary of the Unite union, and Len McCluskey is the assistant general secretary. Right now the union represents about 28,000 members of British Airways.
