Hire Car companies may push for rate rises

According to the President of the Abrams Consulting Group, Neil Abrams, hire car rates will either remain as they are or possibly rise slightly in 2010.
The announcement came as Abrams suggested that many corporate travellers may shop around as the market becomes increasingly flooded with competition and offerings. Despite the economic downturn the rental car industry has remained surprisingly robust as the amount of Britons choosing to ‘staycation’ saw a summer surge in car hire. Unlike previous times of recession the demand for car hire has remained relatively constant and tighter budgets have led to more rational fleet control.

Tourist attractions report bumper summer season

Britain’s ‘staycation’ summer season has provided a huge bonus to many leading UK attractions, with several of the National Trust properties experiencing an unexpected windfall.
The summer boom was brought about primarily by the recession which led to many vacationers choosing to see Britain’s local sights rather than the traditional sojourns abroad. In the four month period from May to August overall visitor numbers increased by 3.4% compared to last year. The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) also revealed that many gardens and museums experienced record visitor numbers.

Aer Lingus May be at Risk of Bankruptcy

It now seems that the Ireland transport minister, Noel Dempsey, has come out to support the Aer Lingus plan to cut €97 million. This is a move that the carrier says that it must make in order to survive. The transport minister said that he supports the fact that the carrier has recognized that they have to change and that they have to be able to compete in a tough market.

Government May Step in to Save Japan Airlines

It now seems that the mountain of debt that is riding Japan Airlines’ shares to the ground, eased up a bit. In fact, Monday in Tokyo the company was pleased to see that its shares had rallied back up 11.9 percent. This comes after a 26 percent loss last week.
Reports have come forward that Japan Airlines’ creditors are requesting a plan with less debt forgiveness than the one that has been proposed to them.
