The chief executive of British Airways, Willie Walsh, has been known for his regular clashes with trade unions. Right now the carrier has a lot of things on its plate that need dealing with. This includes the looming strike for Christmas, as well as a lot of extra charges that many people are not currently happy with. However, Willie Walsh has now come forward to speak on these two issues.
The looming Christmas strike could be brought on by the Unite union, which represents about 14,000 British Airways staff. The strike is coming about after Walsh chose to impose a two [...]

Lufthansa has just recently reported, as of October 29th, that they had a net loss of almost €32 million for the first nine months of this year. This news comes despite the fact that the airline posted a profit of €226 million between January and September of 2009. The carrier said that it was left in the red due to weak demand and the overall recession.
The big decline in the number of business travelers played a major roll in the losses. However, other factors, like the fall in yield, also played a roll in the big loss. During the same [...]

The new traffic results, which were just recently released by the International Air Transport Association, show that passenger demand remains down year on year. However, the bad news for airlines is that their costs have risen.
Airlines from all over the world, including many in the UK, have cut their capacity in order to try to meet demand. However, this has led to aircrafts flying less hours, leading to a rise in non-fuel costs. On top of this, the price of fuel is also on the rise. Oil prices have rose to $75 per barrel in September. This is compared to [...]

Drivers in inner London will soon be able to wave a debit card or credit card at a parking meter to pay their fare.
In the wake of the UK government pursuing a course towards cashless transport payment across Britain the Westminster Council initiative will theoretically do away with the need for carrying cash for parking and even pin numbers not required as ‘wave any pay’ is released.
As of early 2010 there will be some 20 new magnetic readers installed on parking machines in London’s West End which will be activated once the user’s card is swiped across the sensors.
There are [...]

While statistics show that men do tend to travel more than women, the DfT shows the [...]

It now seems that the three Oneworld carriers that are seeking anti trust immunity for a transatlantic joint venture have been told that they will have to give up airport slots if their application is going to go through.
